In more than 30 years as a volunteer firefighter, Kenny Erhardt has done a lot of good for a lot of people. And, long after he hangs up his suspenders for the last time, Erhardt’s lifesaving legacy, Rescue 2, will keep doing good for his department and his mountain area neighbors. It’s got his name on it, after all.

"It’s an absolutely exceptional piece of equipment, and Kenny’s been really involved with it," says Jeff Ashford, who took over as Evergreen Fire Rescue’s rescue chief after Erhardt stepped down from that post at the end of last year.

"There were two people who began the genesis of rescue in Evergreen. Chip Fenton has a plaque in the firefighters’ lounge. The entire organization felt that Rescue 2 should be dedicated to Kenny."

Essentially a rugged 4-wheel-drive equipment platform with room for six trained hands, Rescue 2 allows EFR to quickly deliver its complete arsenal of emergency gear and the personnel to use it whenever and wherever it’s needed. It cost the department about $470,000 fully loaded, and fully loaded it is.
